4.7 from 59 reviews

These delicious Taco Pinwheels are a perfect appetizer or snack, combining a creamy blend of cream cheese, sour cream, and taco seasoning with cheddar cheese, black olives, and green onions, all rolled up in soft flour tortillas. Chilled until set, they are easy to slice and serve at parties or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Filling

  • 8 oz cream cheese
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1 packet taco seasoning (or homemade equivalent)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup black olives (sliced)
  • 4 green onions (thinly sliced)

Wrap

  • 5 flour tortillas (8-inch size)

Instructions

  1. Prepare filling: In a medium bowl, blend together the cream cheese, sour cream, and taco seasoning until the mixture is smooth and all ingredients are well combined.
  2. Add mix-ins: Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese, sliced black olives, and sliced green onions until evenly mixed throughout the filling.
  3. Assemble pinwheels: Evenly spread the creamy taco mixture over each of the 5 flour tortillas, leaving approximately a ½-inch border around the edges to prevent filling from spilling out when rolled.
  4. Roll and chill: Carefully roll each tortilla tightly into a log shape. Place these logs in the refrigerator and chill for at least 1 hour to help them set and make slicing easier.
  5. Slice and serve: Remove the logs from the fridge, trim off the ends to create clean edges, then slice each log into roughly 1-inch wide pinwheels. Arrange on a serving platter and enjoy.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the filling.
  • Use whole wheat or gluten-free tortillas if preferred to accommodate dietary restrictions.
  • The pinwheels can be prepared a day ahead and stored covered in the fridge.
  • Serve with salsa, guacamole, or sour cream for dipping.
  • Homemade taco seasoning can be used as a substitute for the packet to control salt and spice levels.
