Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup granulated sugar

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Toppings

  • 1 cup mini marshmallows
  • 1/2 cup pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • 1/2 cup chocolate glaze (made from melted chocolate)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish thoroughly to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, and granulated sugar to ensure even distribution.
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk the melted unsalted butter with the large eggs and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and well blended.
  4. Combine Wet and Dry: Pour the wet mixture into the bowl with dry ingredients, and stir gently just until all ingredients are combined, taking care not to overmix to maintain a tender crumb.
  5. Bake Cake: Transfer the batter into the prepared baking dish and smooth the top with a spatula. Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes. Check doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center; it should come out clean.
  6. Add Marshmallows and Continue Baking: Remove the cake from the oven and evenly sprinkle the mini marshmallows over the surface. Return to the oven and bake an additional 5 minutes until the marshmallows are golden brown and toasted.
  7. Drizzle Chocolate Glaze: After removing the cake, immediately drizzle melted chocolate glaze over the marshmallow topping while warm to add an extra decadent layer.
  8. Optional Nut Topping: If desired, sprinkle pecans or walnuts on top of the chocolate glaze before it sets for a crunchy contrast.
  9. Cool and Serve: Allow the cake to cool slightly before slicing to set the marshmallow topping and glaze. Serve warm or at room temperature for the best experience.

Notes

  • You can substitute pecans or walnuts with any nut of your choice or omit them for a nut-free version.
  • For an extra moist cake, cover with foil halfway through baking to trap steam.
  • The chocolate glaze can be made using semi-sweet or dark chocolate depending on your preference.
  • Serve with a dollop of whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for added indulgence.
