Instructions

  1. Activate yeast: In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let the mixture sit for 5–10 minutes until it becomes foamy, indicating the yeast is active.
  2. Make dough: Add the all-purpose flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Stir until a shaggy dough forms, then knead the dough by hand or with a mixer for 5–7 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
  3. Let dough rise: Cover the dough and place it in a warm spot. Allow it to rise for 45–60 minutes or until it has doubled in size.
  4. Shape dough: Roll the risen dough into a rectangle approximately 9×13 inches on a floured surface. Transfer it carefully onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  5. Add toppings: Brush the dough surface with melted butter, then evenly sprinkle the minced garlic, Italian seasoning, shredded mozzarella, and cheddar or Parmesan cheese. Optionally, add a pinch of flaky salt or red pepper flakes for extra flavor.
  6. Bake: Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Bake the breadsticks on the center rack for 12–15 minutes or until the cheese is golden, bubbly, and the bread is cooked through.
