4.8 from 73 reviews

Crispy and flavorful oven roasted chickpeas made with simple ingredients. A healthy, high-protein snack or crunchy topping for salads and soups.

Ingredients

Scale

Chickpeas

  • 1 15-ounce can garbanzo beans (240 g or 1.5 cups, drained and rinsed)

Seasoning

  • 1 tablespoon avocado oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat and dry chickpeas: Preheat oven to 425°F. Spread the chickpeas on a clean dish towel and pat them dry thoroughly for the best crispiness.
  2. Season chickpeas: Place dried chickpeas into a medium bowl and add avocado oil, sea salt, garlic powder, and black pepper. Toss well to evenly coat each chickpea with the oil and seasonings.
  3. Prepare for baking: Transfer the seasoned chickpeas onto a small rimmed baking sheet, such as a 1/4 sheet pan, spreading them in an even layer.
  4. Bake chickpeas: Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Oven times may vary, so keep an eye on them to prevent burning. Once done, set aside to cool completely.
  5. Store and serve: Store cooled chickpeas in an airtight container in a cool, dry place for up to 5 days. Enjoy them as a crunchy snack or sprinkle over soups, salads, and dips for added texture and protein.

Notes

  • Patting the chickpeas dry is essential for maximum crispiness.
  • You can experiment with different spices like smoked paprika, cumin, or chili powder for varied flavors.
  • Store roasted chickpeas in an airtight container to maintain their crunch.
  • Use a rimmed baking sheet to prevent chickpeas from rolling off while baking.
  • Oven temperatures can vary, so check chickpeas periodically after 25 minutes to avoid burning.
