Peanut Butter Mixture
- 1 cup (283g) creamy peanut butter
- 6 tablespoons (84g) butter
- 2 ¾ cups (311g) powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Chocolate Coating
- 1 package (10 ounces) chocolate melting wafers (such as Ghirardelli or Candiquik)
- Cream Peanut Butter and Butter: In a mixing bowl, use a hand mixer to cream the peanut butter and butter together until smooth and well combined.
- Add Powdered Sugar and Vanilla: Gradually add the powdered sugar to the mixture, blending slowly until fully incorporated. Stir in the vanilla extract to add flavor.
- Prepare Cookie Sheet: Line a large cookie sheet with wax paper or parchment paper to prevent the peanut butter balls from sticking.
- Form Peanut Butter Balls: Scoop 1-inch portions of the peanut butter mixture and roll each into a smooth ball. Place each ball onto the prepared cookie sheet. Repeat until all the mixture is used.
- Chill to Harden: Refrigerate the peanut butter balls for 20 minutes to allow them to firm up, making them easier to dip in chocolate.
- Melt Chocolate: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate melting wafers. Heat for 30 seconds, stir, then continue melting in 10-second increments, stirring each time, until smooth and fully melted. Follow package directions for best results.
- Dip Peanut Butter Balls: Remove the chilled peanut butter balls from the refrigerator. Using a toothpick, dip each ball individually into the melted chocolate to coat completely. Set them back on the lined cookie sheet.
- Let Chocolate Harden: Allow the chocolate-coated peanut butter balls to set and harden completely at room temperature or in the refrigerator before serving.
- Storage: Store the finished peanut butter balls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days to maintain freshness.
Notes
- To make rolling easier, keep your hands slightly damp or chilled.
- You can substitute creamy peanut butter with natural peanut butter, but the texture might be different.
- For a stronger chocolate flavor, use higher quality chocolate melting wafers.
- Make sure chocolate is not too hot when dipping to prevent melting the peanut butter balls.
- These treats can also be stored in the freezer for longer preservation. Thaw in refrigerator before serving.
